Ethical.Market are one of the leaders in sourcing and providing sustainable, ethically created products from designers all over the world. We loved sitting down with co-founder Raquel Surally Wallace; her passion, knowledge and mission – to shine a spotlight on all the brilliant, ethical products we could be using and gifting in our day-to-day lives – is inspirational. And so, when it came time to do our shopping this Christmas, it was only natural that we head on over to ethical.market to see how Raquel might help.
And boy did ethical.market not disappoint!
So, without further ado, these are just some of the fantastic products Raquel has available this season.
At this time of year it doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to think of gifts to keep people warm!
ethical.market has a range of scarves that are fantastic! Soft, stylish and manufactured without a single child going blind or a river being polluted with dyes!
This range is made from handspun cotton in Laos. Certified as being made by hand under fair work practices. The workers get paid a living wage and you get to give someone a nice scarf. Everybody wins!
Or there’s this set from Jewelled Buddha, made of 100% Merino wool. It’ll set you back a little more, but think of all the extra sheepy warmth!
For anyone who either is a woman or has a woman in their life – whether they’re mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, aunts, nieces or partners – a well-designed tote bag is always a good option. ethical.market has done well by us on that front in the past too:
We love these for their fashion forward designs and their size. When you throw in their quality and the consciousness of their manufacture, they are all kinds of winning.
For example, the use of “vegan leather” – which you and I know as silk grain polyurethane, obviously.
For a gender neutral but no-less-practical option, there are these 100% cotton sheets from LittleLeaf.
If, unlike us, you’re not quite converted to the Tencel camp when it comes to maximum sheetly comfort, it’s worth considering this set. They’re as soft and long-lasting as you’d hope or imagine, and the ethical credentials of LittleLeaf are unbeatable! Just look at them:
Raquel and the guys at ethical.market do a great job of keeping clear the positives of each of the products they feature. Keeping it all transparent is the market’s greatest selling point (as well as fast customer service…and reliable shipping…and clean site design…etc.)
And one last point on the LittleLeaf sheet front: they ship in a conveniently gift-able box, making them a more impressive gift than your average, plastic-wrapped, flaccid sheet package might be.
Gifts for “Him” for Christmas from ethical.market:
As default gifts go, socks, ties and underwear are all a bit passé. If you find yourself at a loose end for your man-friend/s, the guys at The Ethical Giftbox have you covered.
These gift sets contain:
- A Wash Bag made of upcycled truck tire innertube
- Cedarwood Scrub Soap & Rock Scrub
- Natural Konjac Charcoal Sponge
- Handwoven Indigo Face Cloth
- 50ml bottle of Blackberry Whisky, Blackberry Vodka or Raspberry Gin (which seems admittedly out of place in a washing kit, but never unwelcome)
- and a ‘Maker Information’ Card: because what’s more fair trade than actually appreciating the work and products you’re enjoying?!
Back up plans for Christmas from ethical.market:
And if you’re still at a loss… Well, like all the best gift shops, ethical.market has plenty of options to dig you out of that bind.
Raquel has always had a fun and/or stylish selection of cushions, and every home needs a fun and/or stylish cushion! It’s a perfect marriage of your giftee’s home and your need to find them a gift.
So you can avoid gift drama with a very classy llama, or a variety of other designs; all printed on ethically sourced, 100% cotton and printed using environmentally friendly inks and processes.
All year round, candles make great gifts. Everyone likes a good scented candle but the best smelling and looking ones always touch the outer limit of what’s justifiable. (Side note: Yes, even the manliest man won’t complain about a masculine sandalwood wick in their bathrooms.)
And once again, ethical.market has some good options that we love.
These ELYSYN candles from Mythyn look fantastic and come in a nice range of (admittedly floral or fruity) scents.
If that doesn’t quite do it for you, Raquel also features this range from Morgan Jost. Not only do they use soy wax for the candles and use a majority of recycled materials in all major components of their products, but they also donate 50% of their profits to the mental health charity Mind.
The gift that screams “I had no idea what to get you”, but at least it does it with class.
Marble coasters with gold, silver or copper detail. Understated and on trend; so while you may be admitting you don’t know what your giftee really wants, at least you’re saying you think they have style!
That’s it for this year’s Christmas shopping at the ethical.market!
If you are still on the hunt for some great gift ideas, we hope this all helps you in your search for the perfect gift. Check out all the other fantastic products they’ve sourced for their brilliant catalogue, and be sure to let Raquel know we sent you.
