We focus a lot on the ways to make our furniture and our homes more sustainable, but what about the little items we use everyday? Many of the biggest and most effective changes we can make for the environment are cumulative. These little changes can add up to a huge impact; simply by replacing the many, non-and-slow-biodegradable items in our home with more sustainable products.
In a paper published in Science Advances in 2017 it was found that, of all the world’s plastic created between 1950 to 2015, almost half was made in just the preceding 13 years! But that’s no so bad, right? Because these days we’re so good at recycling….right?
In that same paper it was found that of all that plastic created since the industry became mainstream in 1950, only 9% of all discarded plastic had actually been recycled!
What happens to the rest of it? Much of it is buried in landfills, while a horrifying amount ends up clogging our waterways and littering the oceans. Hardly a day goes by without more evidence surfacing of our impact on the world’s ecosystems and environment coming to light.
So today we wanted to shine a light on some simple, brilliant and beautiful sustainable products that can replace many of the disposable plastic items that litter your home!
